The board of approval (BoA) on special economic zones (SEZ) will meet on 19 June to consider the plan to allow the metro rail to pass through the SEZ to be promoted by DLF at Gurgaon.

The BoA, headed by commerce secretary Rahul Khullar, will also consider the application of realty firm K Raheja Universal for de-notification of its IT/ITeS SEZ in Navi Mumbai. The firm has sought to surrender the SEZ due to the economic slowdown.

The DLF Cyber City Developers have requested the BoA to grant permission to the proposed metro corridor to pass through its SEZ in Gurgoan.

“...Since the project is at the advance stage of approval from the Haryana government, they (DLF) have requested permission to pass the proposed metro corridor through Cyber City SEZ,” the BoA agenda said.

The board may also formally approve extension of time period for developing 23 SEZs, including three IT/ITeS SEZs for Satyam Computer Services, in Andhra Pradesh.

Besides, the BoA will also consider two fresh proposals for setting up of SEZs. The BoA on export-oriented units will also meet on the same day.

So far, 568 formal approvals have been granted for setting up SEZs, of which 315 have been notified.

The BoA headed by commerce secretary Rahul Khullar will also take up eight requests by developers for authorized operations.

In its 2 June meet, the BoA had approved 10 SEZs, including those of Gulf Oil Corporation, Emmar MGF and Larsen and Toubro Ltd.

The board had also allowed DLF to withdraw its proposals to set up four IT/ITeS tax-free enclaves, asking the realty major to refund the Rs 6-7 crore worth of fiscal sops it would have availed of.

The government, will on Friday, consider K Raheja Universal’s request to withdraw its IT/ITeS Special Economic Zone at Navi Mumbai, even as the Centre has allowed 23 developers to delay implementation of their projects in the wake of economic slowdown.

Shyam Steel Industries’ proposal for IT/ITeS SEZ in West Bengal and that of Limitless Properties’ multi-service tax-free enclave are the only two for new projects.
